The other day I was thinking about how the Bible says to meditate on the word day and night, like when you’re going to sleep and waking and all throughout the day. For a moment I had the thought (and have thought this before) that it can seem like a cumbersome requirement! Why would God force people to do this?
Then it dawned on me. It’s not difficult if you transition and realize what Realm you are from. Because we are born and immersed here by default on the earth, we naturally have no problem going to sleep and waking up and all throughout the day thinking about earthly things, like sports, our careers, our health, entertainment, or whatever it may be.
If you truly realize that you are from another world, that you are a citizen of heaven, It won’t be an issue pondering the things of the Kingdom.
We will then start to meditate on the way things are there, his ways, his laws, his desires. The culture of the Kingdom, the culture of heaven. A complete detaching from this world to reside in another one.
For too long we’ve been trying to live here in this world and add God to our lives, or do church, or do “Christian things”. Like it’s a side dish during the main meal. Or something you are trying to fit in to your schedule.
I was watching a Star Trek episode recently, and the story was that the crewmembers had been captured on a planet and their minds were wiped. They forgot who they were, and the captors needed more workers to keep their economy and industry afloat. They gave these prisoners a comfortable life, but they had no idea who they truly were any more. And they had no idea they were enslaved. The remaining crew came to rescue them, and an emissary from the planet told them, “You can’t take them now, they are living good lives here, comfortable lives, and productive members of society.” The commander replied, “This may be so, but that is not their home.”
It resonated deeply because I knew it connected with what we are going through. We may have fluffy comfortable lives and jobs in the world. We may be involved in all the activities, all the social circles, volunteering at church, and doing all the “things”. But this is not our home. It never was. We are citizens from another realm. We are captivated by all the latest movies about travelers from other dimensions (pick your Marvel movie), and then go back home and don’t give Jesus a second thought, because we’ve been told being a Christian was just some condiment that we inject into our lives here every now and again. Like a self-help program, to give you a better edge here.
The question is, where does your mind go back to when you’re done with the “things”? Where do you reside? Do you struggle with thinking about God, or praying, or pursuing the Kingdom?
This is not a message of condemnation. This is a message of revelation. Of revealing WHO YOU TRULY ARE. You were born not of corruptible seed, but of uncorruptible seed (1 Peter 1:23). By believing in Jesus, 1 John 5:1 says that you are born of God. Paul says we are citizens of heaven (Eph 2:19). And also, to fix our eyes on things above, where Christ is seated (Col 3:2). This doesn’t mean “Beloved, think about the bible and your church devotional of the week, so that you can be a more righteous person and look good on Sunday because of your holy living”.
This means, “Wake up. Do you realize who you really are? Do you realize whose you are now, and who lives inside you? That you’re citizens of another age? Of another dimension?” It’s not some detached “out there” concept, it’s a fact. There is another realm where God and the living saints and Angels reside. This is your home. There is a way of life there, a code of conduct there, an economy, an education system, an army, a SOCIETY there. A thriving one at that.
What if the TRUTH, is that, as citizens of the Kingdom of Yahweh, we are to resonate so much with the reality of where we come from, that we turn into radio towers transmitting this frequency into our lives, and into the world around us? Didn’t Jesus say to pray to the Father that His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven? (Matt 6:10). Perhaps we are supposed to be agents of THAT Kingdom, releasing and enforcing that true reality into this one? The truth that all our sin has been dealt with. That through Jesus, the world has been reconciled back to the Father (2 Cor 5:19). That we don’t need to rely on the world for our supply because we have a father in heaven who loves us and cares for our needs.
The truth that we are all deeply loved and have been commanded to love one another (John 13:34). What would it look like if we took this command seriously? To love and take care of one another as if we were all one body? If your right arm is hurt, do you leave it alone and say, “oh that arm can take care of itself”, or do you use your left arm to hold it and support it until it can be healed?
The foundation of all this-this reality- is love. It’s knowing we are all one. There is freedom because we all know we are loved deeply and dearly APART from our works. Apart from anything we could ever do. There is actually nothing we can do to make us loved or accepted. It’s simply an act of faith, which is accepting the truth that we are loved because of who we are.
The deep unconditional love and grace of the Father- the truth of your forgiveness through Jesus- is the fuel which will ignite the fire inside of you and propel you into this new way of life: your true identity. A realization that the Kingdom of Heaven is where your home was supposed to be this whole time.
