In this season, do you ever feel like you are trudging through a dense thicket, where the weeds and brush are getting so thick that it’s hard to see where you are going? There is mud beneath your feet, and no matter what you do, you feel like you keep getting stuck, and you feel so lost that you can’t seem to make any headway to where you want to go? I know the feeling.
I get a sense that the Lord is beckoning us to lift our eyes, to take a pause for a moment. Even in the thick of it. Even in the weeds and the mud.
Allow yourself to slow down long enough and stop looking at what is stopping you, stop looking down at your feet. When you look up, you will see a beautiful towering snow-capped mountain ahead of you.
You might ask yourself how you didn’t see this the whole time. It’s not that it wasn’t there, it’s that your eyes were so focused on what was holding you back, or your own understanding of how to get the right bearings. Or do the right things on your own power.
As you allow your eyes to lift and remain on the mountain ahead of you, you realize this is your true destination. It resonates deeply within your soul that this is what you were meant for. You just know it is true, and it feels right. No matter what anyone else says, or how lost you feel now. As you focus on the mountain, you realize there are birds swooping overhead eating pests that have been climbing and jumping towards you.
In fact, now that you look back, while there have been challenges and hardships, you begin to see a golden weave of providence that takes shape along the path you’ve traveled. You begin to remember times God has taken care of you miraculously. Times when your paycheck ran out and you got a call from a friend that they had some extra groceries and wanted to know if you needed some. Times that made you feel so full of the power and reality of the presence of God.
As your eyes continue to dwell on this heavenly interlace along your past, something curious happens to your vision. You turn around and, while the weeds and brush and mud are still there, it’s as if you are so energized by the Lord’s provision that you are given an infusion of strength and confidence in your steps. You leap over the tangled messes and mud pits without even a second thought. Your eyes are drawn deeper and deeper into the Mountain, and its beauty begins to invigorate your soul, to fill you with hope and life.
Friends (and weary travelers), as you navigate your week, please take some time to slow down and remember God’s goodness. Even during the crazy times. Let your own personal testimonies of His provision fill you with hope and anchor your being to the reality that He is trustworthy. That He does take care of you.
Be filled with hope that this season of being in the weeds will soon end, as the Mountain draws near. But even amid this, you can find hope, strength, direction and an iron-clad knowing that He is with you even now, every step of the way.
