Restoring Our Confidence

I must admit, I’m the type of person who naturally takes a while to make a decision on things. I like to analyze from every angle and weigh all the consequences of my choices. I’m a recovering perfectionist. Many years ago, it had gotten so bad that I would be paralyzed in fear anytime I had to decide on something. I would play mental videos of everything that could go wrong if I made a bad choice. It was terrible, and unproductive!

Something that encouraged me greatly was learning about the Love of God, and more specifically how it applies to our choices in life. If it all depends on us, then I think I was justified in being afraid of every decision I was making. But if you factor God into the equation, I believe that He can even make a bad (or less than optimal) decision still turn into something for your good. This is not to say we shouldn’t pray or seek to make wise decisions, but I believe we don’t have to live out of a place of fear either.

It’s my personal belief that God loves us so much that he will correct our path if we veer too far off course. I have experienced this many times in my own life. I’ve gone through seasons where I felt like I fell into the deep end of a pool, and I had no idea how I would ever get back out to a place of trusting in God again. But wouldn’t you know it, he sovereignly brought me back every single time. You know what this did? It gave me confidence that He really does have me. That he really IS my Father.

I believe that many of us lack confidence simply because we put way too much pressure on ourselves. We shoulder burdens we weren’t meant to carry. We worry about making the wrong choice instead of trusting that God will guide us regardless of our decisions, especially if our hearts are in the right place. I think all that God needs is our movement, to take a step forward, while trusting-like a child- that He is good and that he wants what is best for us.

Confidence is trusting in God’s love for you, and not your own ability to make life happen on your own. The more you saturate your mind with His goodness, the more you realize how much He cares for you, and all those little daily worries don’t seem to matter that much anymore.

Today listen to the voice that gently whispers “Don’t worry, you’ve got this. Because I’ve got YOU.”

Pray this with me today:

Father, thank you for caring for us. Thank you that you knew us even before we were born. That your thoughts for us are so many that they can’t even be numbered. We ask that you fill us fresh with your joy and with a strong inner confidence that you truly are our Father, and that your ability to keep us on the right path transcends any worry we might have. Thank you for always being there, whether we realize it or not. We love you. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
