It’s easy to find yourself in a place that feels way too difficult to handle, whether it be a physical ailment, a family dispute, a situation at work, or a financial crisis.
Thankfully the Lord doesn’t ask us to figure everything out on our own; but instead, he beckons us to cast our cares upon him, for he cares for us!
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
Ps. 55:22
He also gives us hope that the Father already knows what we need before we ask him (Matt 6:8), so we don’t even need to beg for it.
He only asks that we keep our eyes on him, as he is our compass and guiding light, no matter what the stormy sea of life may be throwing at us. Because as we dwell in the light of his presence, our storms start to feel pretty small.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2
Psalm 36:9 says “In your light, do we see light”. I believe that unless our eyes are fixed upon him, we are not able to see the true light that proceeds from him and we remain in darkness (John 12:46). I think we’ve all experienced seasons where nothing seems to work right and no answers seem to come.
I think it’s because our focus and vision can easily get distracted, and we forget our vital need for the light of Jesus. It not only provides us with direction (Ps. 119:105), but it is the very sustenance that nourishes our spirit.
As a recent example, lately I realized I’ve been feeling overwhelmed and burdened at work; and not because it’s been legitimately stressful. I just realized I’ve been maximizing my problems by dwelling on them, instead of maximizing the solution by focusing on the Lord and how insignificant those things truly are compared to him.
I was thankful to be reminded by a friend to keep my focus on God, even through busy seasons, as it helps to reorient us to true north and puts everything in its right perspective. And I’ll tell you, it’s really been helpful lately to stay at peace and rest, knowing those “problems” from before aren’t really problems at all.
Don’t worry about getting everything sorted out and cleaned up before looking back to him. That’s what his light is there for! Let his light clean and invigorate you today and give you a renewed sense of direction as you feel the warmth of his pure joy and satisfaction in you.
Father, I thank you that you are the father of lights, and in you there is no darkness or shadow of turning. I thank you that you are pure love, and I turn my gaze toward you now to receive your beautiful and limitless joy and affection for me. I thank you for your grace to keep my eyes on you, so that I never depart from this blissful reality of your love and provision for me. Amen.
